Philips Design presents at Piet Hein Eek facilities during Dutch Design Week 2011

Design Probe team introduces latest project Microbial Home

October 4, 2011

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – During the 10th edition of Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, Philips Design will present its new futuristic Probe project Microbial Home − an innovative domestic ecosystem that provokes discussion on more sustainable solutions. Microbial Home will be presented at the Piet Hein Eek gallery, located at Strijp-R.

“We believe that the Piet Hein Eek gallery offers the right setting to introduce our latest project against the background of Dutch Design Week,” says Clive van Heerden, Senior Director of Design-Led Innovation at Philips Design. “The way Piet Hein Eek and his team create unique products from recycling materials coming out of industry and nature, feels like a natural environment in which we want to demonstrate Microbial Home, which also  challenges conventional design solutions to energy, cleaning, food preservation, lighting and human waste.”

Four lifelike unique Microbial Home design concepts  will be exhibited during Design Week only. ‘We see it as an unique opportunity to present our models to design-minded visitors and we are curious about their reactions of our somewhat provoking way of challenging existing ideas and designs,” adds Clive. Visitors are welcome during the opening hours of Piet Hein Eek throughout Dutch Design Week, 22nd to 30th October 2011.
