Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience debuts in Singapore at Mount Alvernia Hospital

September 3, 2013

Singapore – Hospitals are getting busier, and a clinical, unfriendly atmosphere contributes to an unpleasant healthcare experience. In an effort to help patients feel more at ease and comfortable, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) today announced the installation of the first Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience in Singapore at Mount Alvernia Hospital. Together, the two solutions will help address patients’ comfort during medical treatments and elevate clinical performance, overall patient experience and patient management.

“We are excited to be the first in Singapore to offer patients the Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience. With this, patients who require MRI services will feel more relaxed and comfortable,” said Dr Lee Hwee Huang, Director of Clinical Services at Mount Alvernia Hospital. “By giving our patients, especially children, a sense of control, it helps everyone, including the parents, have a good imaging experience.”

Creating a Calming Environment – especially for the young

As the demand on healthcare systems rapidly increases around the world, so do the requirements for scanning and patient comfort.

“Today, MRI is a standard imaging examination commonly requested by doctors, but it can be a daunting experience for patients,” said Dr Lee.

With Philips’ Ambient Experience solution, the examination room is immediately transformed into a multi-sensorial experience. By softening and removing negative elements, the examination room appears more welcoming and fosters patient-staff dialogue. Patients can play with interactive design elements which draws the attention away from the imaging machines that might otherwise intimidate them.

As a result, patients – especially children, can become more relaxed and clinicians more efficient, facilitating a smoother and faster procedure. With dynamic LED lights, touchscreen panels and thematic video with high quality audio, the Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience creates a relaxing ambience for all. Appealing to the eyes, patients can benefit from a multi-modality imaging environment that is psychologically supportive and soothing. By providing a sense of control over the customization of their environment, the imaging experience becomes interactive and as a result, less stressful.

For a Smoother Procedure

To help overcome the challenges faced by clinicians and designed with patients in mind, the Philips Ingenia MRI delivers more consistent image quality and comfort for improved patient experience. It is also designed to advance diagnosis and radiology workflow.

The Ingenia system introduces, for the first time in MRI, a fully digital signal acquisition and processing that is directed straight to the patient. This will help clinicians make informed decisions for a wide range of clinical procedures. Ingenia is able to generate up to a 40 percent improvement in signal-to-noise ratio compared to previous systems*.

The Ingenia system also reduces exam preparation time and offers a more comfortable patient experience. With an integrated, hidden posterior coil, the 70cm bore system enables whole upper body imaging in just two stations and coverage for total body without manipulation of the patient or coil. These and other features allow users to spend significantly less time on the logistics related to patient set-up, contributing to as much as a 30 percent increase in throughput compared to previous generation systems*. The wide bore combined with the large field of view allows for a variety of procedures and the scanning of a variety of patients.

"At Philips, we believe in improving people’s lives through meaningful innovations. The introduction of Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience is Singapore’s first such installation of its kind. By offering solutions to personalize their environment in a hospital, patients can feel more comfortable at each interaction and genuine focus on customer service can be established,” said Suvendra Das, General Manager Philips Healthcare Singapore. “The Philips Ingenia 3.0T with the exciting new MR system architecture dStream delivers crystal clear images, remarkable speed, and technology that makes RF upgrades a thing of the past. The Philips Ingenia MRI with Ambient Experience brings benefits to patients, caregivers, clinicians, hospitals and healthcare systems alike.”
