Electronics Innovator Leveraging Wireless Connectivity to Make Technology Accessible and Relevant to All Aspects of Daily Life

LAS VEGAS, USA - Royal Philips Electronics is leveraging advances in wireless connectivity to become the leader in providing the connected home experience, where all aspects of daily life can be enhanced through technology. The company showcased its latest connectivity innovations and outlined its strategic direction and new brand positioning today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA.

A wholly integrated home network is quickly becoming a reality through wireless technology, enabling a new class of consumer electronics that are more meaningful and relevant to people's daily activities, noted Philips Consumer Electronics CEO Gottfried Dutiné during a presentation at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Philips plans to capitalize on this trend with its "Connected Home" brand strategy, which is based upon the practical uses and applications of technology to bring an enhanced experience to consumers' lives. Larry Blanford, CEO, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America, joined Dutiné to further outline this strategy, offering insights into the evolving consumer electronics business and discussing the company's goals and direction in North America and throughout the world.

"We have made some important progress this year in North America and it has been well received by both our customers and consumers," Blanford said. "We've become a more strategic and forward-looking company while at the same time, remaining committed to providing consumers with technology that enhances their daily experiences and that delivers on Philips longstanding promise to make things better."

The Connected Home
Philips' strategy for the Connected Home focuses on developing products that provide consumers easy access to innovative and useful digital technology that enhances daily activities. Philips' is making strides to become the category leader in integrated digital displays, optical storage and wireless connectivity. The company's core competencies in these areas uniquely positions Philips to take a leadership role in creating the Connected Home, and make technology a seamless part of people's everyday lives. In order to bring these experiences to consumers, Philips is focusing on the following three experience domains: Home Entertainment, Personal Expression and Productivity.

"Philips wants to be the brand that is top of mind when people imagine the most rewarding digital entertainment, communication and information experiences possible," said Dutiné. "Philips products are already an integral part of the home experience. From our newly launched HeartStart Home Defibrillator from Philips Medical Systems, and our widely acclaimed consumer electronics products, to our long history in lighting, Philips is committed to providing consumers with innovative technology solutions to help them utilize technology to enhance their lives."

Paving The Way With Products
Philips' 2003 product line up is accelerating the shift from analog to digital, while helping consumers interact with technology in a natural way. Philips vision for the future of the digital home features one fully wireless network that provides relevant content to consumers whenever and wherever they want to live out that experience.

"The Connected Home is quickly becoming a reality and is very important to us at Philips for several reasons," said Blanford. "First, consumers will enjoy tremendous benefits. No longer will consumers have to rely on stand-alone devices with stand-alone functions, as digital technology integrates the consumer electronics experience into their lives and daily routine. Second, the Connected Home is a proof point of Philips' strengths and truly represents the sweet spot of our three core competencies. By leveraging our strengths, Philips is creating products that will enhance the human experience through people's interaction with technology and this represents a tremendous growth opportunity for our company."
