Participating in IDA's Connected Homes project enables Philips to further understand the needs of the end user to better determine the kinds of technologies it can best bring to preserving and even enhancing people's lives. The involvement of real people in the process of creating products of the future is one of the steps that Philips is actively taking towards developing "meaningful" and "humanized" technology for people; making technology a seamless part of people's everyday lives.
Philips' contribution to this nation-wide technology project is in line with its global vision of an "ambient intelligent" environment where people can enjoy the benefits of products, applications and services which are able to seamlessly communicate with one another right in the comfort of their own homes whenever and wherever they want to live out that experience. No longer will consumers have to rely on stand-alone devices with stand-alone functions, as digital technology integrates the Philips experience into their lives and daily routine.
"Philips is proud to be involved in this first-of-its-kind project. It's not just about networked technology, the Philips Connected Home concept is all about enabling people to connect with their friends, enjoy their favorite content and be in control, wherever people are,", remarked Piet Coelewij, Senior Vice-President and leader of the Philips Innovation Campus.
As a leading supplier of branded products and b-to-b solutions for use in Connected Homes, Philips is applying its core technology strengths in Displays, Connectivity, Storage and Digital Video Processing across a range of entertainment and communications applications.
Philips has already pioneered many "connected" products and technologies such as Broadband TV, internet audio, universal remote control, wireless PC-TV media receiver(802.11b wireless lan), DVD HDD, etc which will be showcased in the Connected Homes project.
