PHILIPS IN SINGAPORE

Royal Philips Electronics was founded in 1891 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In 1951, Philips Electronics Singapore was set up. With a current workforce of 3,000, Philips is one of the pioneer investors in Singapore and has been in the country for 58 years.

Philips Singapore was awarded OHQ (Operational Headquarters) status in 1989 and conferred the Distinguished Partner in Progress Award by the Singapore Government in 1992. Its commitment to human resource development was also recognized with the May Day Plaque of Commendation - Gold Award in 1995 from the National Trades Union Congress. Philips is the only multi-national company to be bestowed with two SQA awards in Singapore, with Philips then-tuner factory winning the prestigious Singapore Quality Award (SQA) in 1998, followed by its Consumer Lifestyle Domestic Appliances factory in 2000.

In 2006, Philips’ Audio Video Multimedia Applications division won the Singapore Innovation Award. Philips Consumer Lifestyle Domestic Appliances factory, a center of competence responsible for the research and development of new products, manufacturing and the global supply of Philips’ irons and ironing system, was one of the finalists in Singapore’s inaugural MAXA (Manufacturing Excellence Award) in 2006 and the recipient of the Singapore Advantage Award, MAXA 2006.

Based in Singapore, the regional headquarters and competence centers of Philips’ three sectors – Lighting, Consumer Lifestyle and Healthcare - provide marketing and technical support to Asia Pacific. The sales organization markets a wide range of Philips' consumer and professional products, systems and services. The industrial operations in Singapore include the Consumer Lifestyle Domestic Appliances factory, Philips Lumileds LED factory and Philips Applied Technologies.

In 2006, Philips set up its Healthcare sector’s first and largest dedicated facility for advanced medical equipment training in Asia Pacific - the Singapore Learning Center. Occupying 37,000 sq ft, the Euro 12 million facility is the first-of-its-kind in the region, featuring Philips’ latest sophisticated medical diagnostics equipment. In 2007, Philips officially opened its high-power LED production facility in Singapore, its first such facility outside Silicon Valley. This is a high volume production facility for Philips Lumileds’ LUXEON® range of LEDs and currently employs more than 450 staff.
