Philips increases connected technology footprint with launch of Philips Avent uGrow, the world’s first medical baby app1

Singapore – Philips Avent, the world’s leading mother and childcare brand, launches uGrow, the first medical baby app of its kind, to support and empower parents through their parenting journey. Unlike existing parenting apps that primarily log data, uGrow is designed to work in tandem with a suite of connected devices such as the Philips Avent Smart Ear Thermometer to collect and analyze information relating to a baby’s development and wellbeing. The app then provides personalized advice that is best suited to each individual’s need.

In the recently released Future Health Index, a 19-country survey commissioned by Philips to look into differing levels of readiness in embracing the benefits of connected care technology and data sharing, 54% of respondents from Singapore who are expecting or recently had a child see a role for connected care technology to support them in their parenting journey.

“The first 1,000 days of a baby’s life are critical to set the stage for their future health and can even lay a foundation for the health of our society. At Philips, we believe in delivering innovative solutions and helping people take control of their health through the use of data and connected technology. We understand how overwhelming becoming a parent can be, and that it is important for parents to start their journey well with a guide that provides them with the right information at the right time,” said Ivy Lai, Country Manager, Philips Singapore.

“The uGrow app is a medical grade digital parenting platform, supported by healthcare professionals, that gives babies a voice through data capture and provides parents with customized advice to make better informed parenting decisions. This knowledge empowers them to take control of their baby’s growth and development. When expert advice is needed, the information recorded is easily shared with healthcare professionals, paving the way for an increase in telehealth services, while leaving parents reassured that they are providing better care for their children.”

The era of the millennial has transformed our everyday habits, including how we act as parents. Young parents and parents-to-be from the connected generation naturally have an enormous need for content about their new life stage and are turning to search engines and interactive forums to prepare themselves for the road ahead. With uGrow, parents now have instant access to data driven information through their smartphones to help them navigate whatever developmental stage their child is currently in.

ugow app features

The app features an interactive timeline and helps parents track baby’s vital statistics and growth, nursing frequency, diaper output and sleep cycles. When used in conjunction with the Philips Avent Smart Ear Thermometer, it also tracks temperature and keeps parents updated on the wellbeing of their child. The app is able to alert parents to any anomalies in the pattern of the data recorded and offers dynamic content and insights provided by a panel of breastfeeding, sleep and developmental psychology experts that is mapped to baby’s age, so that the advice parents receive through the app is always unique and tailored to their needs.

With up to three devices connected to each app account, multiple caregivers can keep each other updated on how baby is doing when mum and dad take a break from parenting duties for some wellearned rest or leave baby in the capable hands of a caregiver when mum returns to work after maternity leave.

The app also captures and celebrates baby’s milestones in one place by allowing parents to post pictures, add virtual stickers and jot down memories to create a personalized baby diary to share with loved ones.
