New facility aims to upskill radiographers and foster innovation in medical imaging through advanced workflow solutions and AI-driven tools.
Further to a collaboration announced last year, Philips and Singapore General Hospital (SGH) recently inaugurated the SGH and Philips MRI Training Centre, a collaborative initiative designed to strengthen MRI education and clinical capabilities in Singapore and beyond.
Located within SGH, the centre will serve as a hub for training, upskilling, and knowledge sharing, supporting healthcare professionals in adopting advanced imaging technologies and best practices.
This milestone reflects a shared commitment to improving patient care through innovation and education.

Empowering radiographers with advanced tools
The training centre features five dedicated workstations equipped with the latest workflow platform, designed to simplify operations and reduce complexity. This platform integrates artificial intelligence to automate routine tasks, streamline image acquisition, and enable faster, more consistent results—helping radiographers focus on patient care rather than manual processes.

Building on early success
The launch of the centre builds on a strong foundation of training already conducted earlier in the year, which included:
- E-learning modules on MRI physics and techniques theory.
- Hands-on live scanning sessions for Neuro, Neck, Spine, and Body applications.
- Participation in Philips’ Lead Technologists Meeting, where SGH shared insights on patient experience innovations.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the value of practical training, parameter adjustments, and informal knowledge sharing during clinical work. These sessions have helped radiographers gain confidence in MR application skills and fostered a culture of continuous learning.
Driving innovation and sustainability
The centre will also showcase AI-powered imaging acceleration technology, which can significantly reduce scan times while maintaining high image quality. This advancement helps improve diagnostic confidence and enhances patient comfort during MRI procedures.
In addition, Philips continues to lead in sustainability through its helium-free MRI systems, reducing environmental impact and ensuring operational resilience—a key priority for healthcare providers worldwide.

Regional impact and future plans
The SGH and Philips MRI Training Centre will host educational workshops, webinars, and clinical talks, extending its benefits beyond Singapore to healthcare organizations across Asia Pacific. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the initiative aims to build a strong foundation for MRI expertise in the region.
