How to install and mount my Philips Wireless Motion Sensing System

    Published on 29 January 2025

Find out all the information and tips on how to correctly install and mount you Philips Wireless Motion Sensing System in the article below.

Placement Guidelines for your Motion Sensing Plugs

    1. Place the first Motion Sensing Plug you pair in a power point within 10 meters from your router.
    1. Place the second, third, or following Motion Sensing Plugs your pair in a power point within 3 to 10 meters from another Motion Sensing Plug.
    1. To enable motion sensing, at least two Plugs are required, but three in a triangular formation provide the best coverage.
    1. For optimal motion sensing, install plugs in power points at waist height if available. Power points at other conventional heights will also work effectively. Avoid placing Motion Sensing Plugs directly on the floor, near the ceiling, or behind metallic appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, or any other objects that might interrupt the Wi-Fi signal, as this may reduce their performance.
    1. Plugs can be placed in separate rooms, as the system is not blocked by walls. The coverage will be between the plugs, and within the rooms in which they’re placed. However, extremely thick walls can block the Wi-Fi signal, and reduce the sensing performance.
    1. Plugs within one zone must be placed on the same floor. If you want to cover multiple floors, a separate zone should be created for each floor.

Placement Guidelines for your Door Sensor

Kindly note that the Door Sensor is meant to be placed on doors. If the Door Sensor is placed on a window, it should be placed inside to avoid rain and outdoor exposure.

    1. Ensure you are mounting your Door Sensor within 10 meters from one of the Motion Sensing Plugs. If not, please reconfigure your Motion Sensing Plugs using the placement guidelines.
    1. Ensure the mounting area is clean and dust-free.
    1. Determine the location for the Door Sensor and the magnet. Ensure that:
    • The Door Sensor and Magnet are placed near the top of the door
    • The Door Sensor and Magnet are placed no more that two centimeters apart from each other
    • The Door Sensor and Magnet are placed with their indicator lines aligned.
    1. Peel off the adhesive backing and firmly stick the Door Sensor and Magnet on the door.
    1. Open the activity graph in the Philips Home Safety app to test the Door Sensor. Open and close the door, and check if the door status is reflected.

Testing the coverage in your Home

To test if the desired area in your home is successfully covered by your Wireless Motion Sensing System, please walk through the following steps:

    1. Open the Philips Home Safety app and make sure all your devices are online.
    1. Open the graph view in the Philips Home Safety app.
    1. Walk from one Motion Sensing Plug to the other for 30 seconds to a minute, and check if the motion shows in the graph.
    1. Repeat step 3 for all the pairs of devices in your zone. If motion is not picked up, please move around your devices within the guideline distance to optimize placement.
    1. If you want to check if a specific area is covered, move around in that area for 30 seconds to a minute. If you wish to cover an area that is not covered, move around your devices to bring them closer to this area. Alternatively, you can buy an additional system and add a new zone to cover a larger area.
