Why do my pump’s display lights get dimmer or turn off?

    Published on 10 July 2026

Check the following advice for your specific breast pump model.

Philips Avent Natural Care Hands-free Wearable Electric Breast Pump

Your Philips Avent Natural Care Hands-free Wearable Electric Breast Pump has display dimming features to make it less disruptive in low-light environments like your bedroom and to save the battery.

The display will remain at full brightness for approximately 25 seconds after you press any button during pumping or for 8 seconds when the breast pump is paused, and then it will turn off.

Briefly press any button on your breast pump to ‘wake up’ the display.

In the standby mode, the battery indicator light is still visible at full brightness. If your breast pump is in stand-by mode or paused for 15 minutes, it will shut down to save battery power.

Your Philips Avent Hands-free Breast Pump has display dimming features to make it less disruptive in low-light environments like your bedroom.

Your display will remain at full brightness for around 8 seconds after you push a button, change the suction level, or your pump switches automatically between pumping modes (from stimulation to expression). Then it will become dimmer for a few more seconds before turning off.

Quickly press any button on the motor unit to wake up the display and view the pumping duration.

In pause mode, the battery level indicators are still visible at full brightness.

For suction level and pumping mode changes, the level indicators will turn on for a few seconds at full brightness. Then the pumping duration will be displayed for around 8 seconds at full brightness and then dimmer lighting for a few more seconds.

Pressing and holding the power button to turn off your pump works no matter the brightness level or if the display is active.
