My Philips Dehumidifier smells bad or like plastic

    Published on 11 December 2024

If your Philips Dehumidifier or 2in1 Air Purifier and Dehumidifier produces a bad odor, please find out the possible causes and solutions here.

The first times you use your Philips Dehumidifier, it might produce a plastic smell. Do not worry this is normal and the smell will fade away.

Note: the following information is only applicable to models DE520x and DE5305.

A dirty filter can produce a bad smell. If this is the case, please clean or replace the filter as recommended for your specific dehumidifier.

The residual water in the water tank could cause a bad smell. To avoid the smell and maintain hygiene, please empty the water tank and air dry it thoroughly before storing.
